Meditations — Marcus Aurelius

“You have power over your mind
- not outside events.
Realize this,
and you will find strength.”

— 'Meditations', Marcus Aurelius

A collection of thoughts from Roman Emperor & stoic philosopher, Marcus Aurelius.
The collection of works and entries in this book are from Marcus Aurelius' private journal & were never meant for publication.

It gives wonderful insight and advice on how to withstand emotional turmoil & traumatic situations,
how to become more self disiplined,
how to stop caring about what others think,
and how to foster a more sustainable outlook on life.

Where the Sidewalk Ends — Shel Silverstein

"If we had hinges on our heads
There wouldn't be no sin,
'Cause we could take the bad stuff out
And leave the good stuff in."

— 'Hinges', Shel Silverstein

A collection of silly poems & rhymes from Shel Silverstein.
All of the poetry is very whimsical & light-hearted, but have small nuggets of wisdom within them.

This books holds a special place in my heart,
as my Dad used to read me this (and other collections) every night before i went to sleep.

Ecclesiastes — The Holy Bible

"'Vanity of vanities,' saith the Preacher. 'Vanity of vanities, all is vanity.'"

— Ecclesiastes 1:2

Ecclesiastes is one of the 3 'wisdom' books of the Bible. It touches on life's cosmic irony, the fleeting nature of success, and other existential musings.

I don't recommend this book if you are going through your edgy teenage phase,
but instead recommend this for your edgy, mid-twenties phase of life.

Industrial Society and Its Future — Freedom Club

"There is goоd reason to believe that primitive mаn suffered from less stress and frustration and was better satisfied with his way of life than modern mаn is."

— Ted Kacyzinski

Industrial Society & It's Future (otherwise known as; 'The Unibomber Manifesto'), is an accurate prediction of how society has (and will) turn out due to technology's vice-grip on humanity.
A real eye-opener on many things such as the rapid evolution of technology, it's effect on humanity as a whole, the impact technology has on politics, and other controversial topics.

real shame Teddy got caught...
... and an even bigger shame that statement will get me put on a list...

Job — The Holy Bible

"I also could speak as ye do: if your soul were in my soul's stead, I could heap up words against you, and shake mine head at you."

— Job 16:4

The book of Job is my personal favorite scripture.
It highlights the fact that we will never know God's plan, nor will we understand it.
Big recommendation if you're going through your "I hate everything, the world sucks, & nothing matters", Nietzsche-esque phase in life...

... or if you're feeling suicidal...
(at least, it helped me when i felt that way)

The Art of War — Sun Tzu

“The wise warrior avoids the battle.”

― 'The Art of War', Sun Tzu

The Art of War is an ancient, Chinese military treatise written on the 'artistic' side of warfare & military conquest.
Much of the content can be applied to everyday life,

and has come in handy for me more times than once.
